About Cap City
The Capital City Marching Festival is a first-class marching band competition designed for high school bands and directors to perform their UIL contest show in front of a large, appreciative audience. The friendly environment encourages new marching band students prepare for their competitions to follow. The LBJ Band Boosters and Crockett Band Boosters sponsor the festival. The Capital City Festival venue continues to be the large, all-weather turf Burger Center Stadium located in southwest Austin.
Capital City strives to attain the very best judging experts in the area of marching band. The four adjudicators are assigned the captions- Music, Percussion Ensemble, Visual Ensemble, and Colorguard. The 100-point judging system awards groups within the two elements of music and visual /marching effects. The qualities of technique, execution, performance, and effectiveness are evaluated. Each band is considered on its own merit for style, theme, and approach. Awards are given at the end of each conference. Bands are based on the number of woodwinds & brass in the band, not based on the school’s UIL classification.
The co-sponsoring band boosters are totally dedicated to offering each band program a fabulous state-of-the-art marching band experience for its participating bands. The Capital City Festival celebrated its 16th year last season with 31 bands performing. Next year’s October 3, 2009 festival promises to be another terrific festival.
For each of the four classes, trophies are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Special trophies are also awarded in each class for the top two percussion sections, and the top two colorguard units. Two overall festival trophies are awarded: one to the band (of all classes) chosen by the judges as “the best musical performance” and “the best general effect”.
